History of Battery Technology II

As pioneers of the nickel-cadmium batteries are the two inventor Thomas Alva Edison and Waldemar Jungner. They explored the field of electrochemical energy storage and reported in 1901 to the first patents for nickel-iron-and nickel-cadmium Dell XPS M1530 battery . They are also considered ancestors of the zinc-air battery technology. The decisive step towards commercial use of NiCd batteries succeeding only Neumann in 1948 with the description of a patented gas-tight housing for the Dell Studio 1737 battery technology.
Due to the high environmental standards replaced the battery manufacturer in the early 90s, the highly toxic heavy metal of NiCd batteries by a metal-bonded hydrogen. Thus began the triumph of the nickel-metal hydride Dell Vostro 1310 battery.
With the increasing popularity of mobile IT equipment and the related desire for light and powerful batteries with small dimensions, the industry developed in the mid 90s, the lithium-ion battery. With the continued miniaturization of devices, manufacturers demanded variable Dell Inspiron Mini 9 battery casing forms of Li-ion technology. In 1993 came the lithium-polymer battery, which today is mainly used in small devices such as mobile phones or PDAs.
Great hopes on the Dell Vostro 1510 battery to the fuel cell developers as the future performance of energy. Already in 1839 the physicist Sir Robert Grove set the stage for this technology. He developed the first working prototype. This consisted of two platinum electrodes which were located in separate glass cylinders. Grove filled a cylinder with oxygen and the other with hydrogen and dipped them in a dilute sulfuric acid (electrolyte). This structure produced a measurable voltage and is considered a prototype of the fuel cell. After this discovery, the fuel cell technology long forgotten. Only in 1950 discovered the military and space technology back to the compact and efficient energy source. Since the beginning of the 90 research scientists and the use of fuel cell technology in the industrial / commercial environment - with good future prospects.
