The eternal dilemma Battery

While I’m on the Mac sector no longer an “old hand”, but my MacBook Pro now has already experienced a lot and is currently three years old. About a year ago because it had a screen defect in repair, but thanks to AppleCare has prepared me a headache. All in all, really a great device, the good is giving good service. The only major weakness is the Dell Vostro 1310 battery of this device. More specifically … the batteries …

About three years have I, as mentioned above, bought a MacBook Pro. At first I was on battery power so excited and could such a long day at the FH well survive without power. But this joy did not last long. After a few months (and about 40 charge cycles) the battery started to weaken. But in big trouble followed a certain amount of luck.

The addressed Battery was almost exactly 10 months after use so corrupt as to allow the unit to simply turn off when displayed 50% residual capacity. After a few calls to the Apple support, and some arguing, I was a gesture of goodwill a new Dell Studio 1537 battery
sent. And I must say that the exchange is up very easily. That was in May 2008 and, as I have this battery still, I will from now on Battery 1 . Call

In July 2009 I had the raised screen defect. AppleCare again came to the train and I brought the unit to a dealer in Vienna. The repair work also without objection, as there is nothing to complain about. Since Battery 1 by this time again dropped to just under 50% of its capacity was (according to coconut battery and subjective term noticeable deterioration), I decided to buy me a battery. I call this from now on Battery 2.

About half a year later (autumn 2009) had Battery 2 already clearly lost capacity. That is, he has been certified about 70% health – not exactly great. Problem in fact is that, if the display is exactly half-way, attracts business from the affair and claims that are the normal wear and tear. That’s why I had to grudgingly accept the situation.

About March 2010 I presented finds that Battery 2 just 30% having health and with great difficulty by holding a little over an hour. Impressive performance for a battery, which is just 9 months old. From Battery 1 I knew that he still has about 50% health, so I replaced the two.

Since my purchase of Battery 2 was Battery 1 on the shelves around. After the 9 months while he was already discharged fairly deep, but he still possessed about 40% health. This was the two-year-old battery far better state than its not even a year old colleague. In recent weeks I’ve used both batteries again and again to draw can resume.

Battery 1:

* 26 months
* 76 cycles
* 30% Health (1700 to 5600mAh on full charge)

Battery 2:

* 12 months
* 80 cycles
* 19% Health (1100 5600mAh when fully charged)

Apart from the timeWhere Battery 1 was on the shelf, I have treated both batteries actually the same. And in my opinion, neither especially little used, improperly stored or otherwise made any big mistakes.

was several times a week the battery is short and recharged (normal daily operation, maintenance) and on average once a week I’ve indulged in a complete cycle of the Dell Latitude E5400 battery. That is, really working on the battery until it was at 20% charge level down and then fully charged. I have calibrated both only two or three times … each time hoping that the lost capacity could somehow re-emerge.

An error in the Charging electronics, I can pretty well rule out, as it was exchanged on the screen also repair the logic board. I also got a new power supply, because the LED on the MagSafe connector was broken.

So far the story. Now I’m sitting here with a device, two more or less completed batteries and think about how I do now makes sense to proceed further. On the one hand, I find the speed of my MacBook Pro yet entirely sufficient, on the other hand, I would like a battery that allows me some mobility (not just from outlet to outlet). So I remain exactly the following:

* I might give me a new battery buy from Apple. Does it cost a fortune and is likely soon broken.
* Purchase of a Reproduction Batteries. Costs by half and is probably not much worse. I honestly can not think further deterioration from Battery 2 . Imagine
* A New MacBook purchase in which the Dell Latitude d620 battery is installed at all the same fix (which I do not like at all) and possibly sell the old device.
* The Mac world due to disappointing battery performance turn your back and something new from HP, Acer, Lenovo or consorts Yet.

Now I have a whole Amount of written and am somehow still not so completely come to the point. Lots of content in the sense, the article has indeed not … I would rather call it Passion. To make it short but to summarize what I would like to express to the article:

I’m from the battery quality a notebook around 1800 € just hopelessly disappointed and would have something not expected in this price range also. So happy I met with Mac OS X, the processing of the device itself and some other circumstances I am … this downer simply bitter. For just a battery quality I get from a 350 € netbook from discount supermarkets.
